Summary of Smallville Seasons 1-10 DVD Box Set
In October 1989, a meteor shower hits Smallville and with it arrives a little boy. The child is adopted by Martha and Jonathan Kent, and named Clark. Twelve years later, Clark struggles to understand his identity. After Clark saves Lex Luthor's life after Lex drives his Porsche off a bridge, the two become fast friends. After sharing an intimate moment with Lana Lang, Clark is forced into a school hazing ritual led by Lana's jealous boyfriend Whitney. Meanwhile, Jeremy Creek (Adrian Glynn), a teenage boy who was left in a coma after the first meteor shower, wakes up and sets out to get revenge on those that hurt him. Afterward, he prepares to do the same to the rest of the Smallville High students, but Clark arrives in time to stop him.
Greg Arkin (Chad Donella) gets into a car accident with his meteor rock-enhanced insects, which escape from their containers and begin stinging him. The resulting attack transforms him into a half man/half insect creature. Rapidly going through a metamorphosis, Greg kidnaps Lana so he can mate with her. After talking with Whitney, Clark realizes where Greg has taken Lana and leaves to rescue her. During the fight, Greg accidentally crushes himself under some mechanical equipment, resulting in a mass of insects flooding out from underneath. Before Clark can return to Lana, Whitney arrives and receives credit for her rescue.
A meteor rock infused sauna endows Coach Arnold (Dan Lauria) with pyrokinesis. After several football players are caught cheating, Chloe discovers that Coach Arnold assisted the players when they cheated. Coach Arnold asks Clark to join the football team, and Clark agrees against his father's wishes. Clark confronts Coach Arnold before his first game, after Arnold attempted to kill Chloe and another football player for exposing the truth about the cheating. The coach's fury gets the better of him as he engulfs himself in flames while battling Clark.
Clark rescues Lana from the giant tornado which she was pulled into and takes her to the hospital. When he returns home, Clark learns that his ship is gone and that his father chased Roger Nixon (Tom O'Brien) into the storm for attempting to expose Clark's secret. Lex is wracked with guilt over not helping his father sooner when the mansion ceiling collapsed. Lex makes a decision to rush into surgery to keep his father from becoming paralyzed. The surgery succeeds but results in the loss of Lionel's eyesight. Jonathan and Nixon attempt to dig themselves out of the crypt they fell into after a mobile home dropped out of the sky on top of them. Clark shows up before the two men lose all oxygen, but the meteor rocks in the crypt weaken him. Nixon takes advantage of the situation and kidnaps Clark. Jonathan chases him, but Nixon gets the upper hand. Lex shows up and saves Jonathan's life by shooting Nixon before he can kill Jonathan.
During a record heat wave, Clark develops a new ability, heat vision, which causes him to have uncontrollable bursts of heat from his eyes. Clark quickly learns that his flare-ups are based on a state of sexual arousal, having started a fire at school and the local coffee shop while with Lana. With Jonathan's help, Clark is able to gain control over his new ability. Meanwhile, Lex marries Desirée Atkins (Krista Allen), a woman he barely knows and Clark's new biology teacher. Desirée has the ability to control men with pheromones enhanced by meteor rock. Desirée attempts to use her pheromones on Clark, but he is resistant. As a result, Desirée uses her abilities on Jonathan, convincing him to kill Lex so that she can inherit his fortune. Clark manages to save Lex before either Jonathan or Desirée can kill him.
Pete unknowingly discovers Clark's spaceship in a cornfield and makes plans to sell the story to the media. Against his parents' wishes, Clark decides to tell Pete the truth about his alien origins in an effort to keep Pete from telling anyone about the ship. Pete, more upset over Clark's dishonesty than the fact that he is an alien, leaves. Dr. Steven Hamilton (Joe Morton), suffering from overexposure to the meteor rocks, steals the spaceship. When Lex refuses to believe his rants about a ship, Dr. Hamilton seeks support from Lionel Luthor. After realizing that the ship requires a key to open it, Dr. Hamilton kidnaps Pete in an effort to find out where the key is. Dr. Hamilton threatens Pete's life before Clark arrives and rescues Pete. In the process, Dr. Hamilton has a violent convulsion, as a result of his condition, and dies. After returning the ship to the Kent farm, Pete and Clark reconcile.
Under the influence of red kryptonite, and living in Metropolis, Clark gets involved with a crime lord named Morgan Edge who hires him to break into LuthorCorp. Desperate to put his family back together, Jonathan makes a deal with Jor-El so that he can bring Clark home. Lex is stranded on a deserted island, with the world believing him to be dead. At the mansion, Lionel accuses Helen, revealed to be alive, of killing Lex.
Jor-El grants Jonathan temporary superpowers, and he and Clark engage in a destructive battle below the LuthorCorp building. Clark, unable to kill his father, destroys the red kryptonite. Lex returns home to the shock of Helen. He quickly learns that Helen attempted to kill him, and takes measures to ensure that doesn't happen again. Morgan Edge finds Clark and kidnaps him in an effort to make amends to Lionel.
Clark discovers Van McNulty has been killing green meteor rock-infected people. When he confronts him, the green kryptonite rock Van is carrying stops him. Knowing Clark's weakness, Van manufactures meteor rock bullets, and almost kills Clark. Using Lana as bait, Van tries to increase his efforts, but both Lana and Clark prove to be too much for him to handle.
Clark returns to Smallville as Kal-El; intent on fulfilling his destiny, Kal-El takes to the skies to steal a powerful Kryptonian stone which was in the possession of Lex Luthor. Dr. Swann's emissary, Bridgette Crosby (Margot Kidder), arrives to help Martha, who learns about a new form of kryptonite. Lois Lane comes to town to investigate the death of her cousin Chloe. Lana is shown in Paris with a new boyfriend, Jason (Jensen Ackles), and Jonathan Kent lies in a coma. Martha uses the Black kryptonite to help Clark retrieve his past self. Lana sees a symbol on her back which is similar to one on tombstone of Countess Isobel Thoreaux.
Clark and Lois Lane investigate Chloe's apparent death, but are stopped by General Sam Lane, Lois' father. Lois suspects he knows more about Chloe's death than he is letting on, and tries to find out more. Discovering that Lex has been keeping her in hiding, Clark tries to find Chloe before Lionel's assassin can really kill her.
Lana's boyfriend, Jason Teague, having followed her to Smallville, takes a position as the assistant football coach. The two try keeping their romance a secret from the school, and also Clark. Abby Fine, a student, turns to plastic surgery to enhance her looks and boost her popularity. Things go awry when she discovers that her kryptonite-enhanced beauty causes harm to anyone she kisses.
Transported to the Arctic, Clark watches as the united crystals create the Fortress of Solitude. Inside, Jor-El instructs Clark that he must complete training for an impending doom that is about to hit Earth. Meanwhile, two Kryptonian disciples of Zod arrive in Smallville searching for Kal-El. Clark is forced to return to Smallville, before completing his training, but promises Jor-El that he'll return before sunset.
When he doesn't return, Jor-El strips Clark of his powers, making him human. Delighted to finally be "normal," Clark pursues a relationship with Lana without secrets. When Lana, Jonathan and Martha are taken hostage by three krypto-thugs, Clark must figure out how to save his family without his super powers. In the end, Clark learns that everything was orchestrated by Lex, in an effort to test Clark's abilities. Clark confronts Lex, thus ending their friendship.
Chloe is warned by Gabriel, a former school newspaper worker, that he is going to set off a missile and obliterate all of Smallville. Still stripped of his super powers, Clark confronts Gabriel and ends up being killed. Jor-El, in possession of Lionel's body, resurrects Clark with all his powers, but with the consequence that someone Clark loves will have to die.
Clark, still stuck in the Phantom Zone, gets help from his father's assistant, Raya, in escaping. Chloe runs into former flame Jimmy Olsen, a new intern photographer at the Daily Planet. Clark returns from the Phantom Zone and confronts Zod. Using the House of El crystal Raya gave him, Clark defeats Zod. It also becomes apparent that other Phantom Zone criminals escaped with Clark.
Clark spends his nights helping the rebuilding effort of Metropolis. When Clark develops a cold, he discovers a new super power. An inadvertent sneeze blows the barn door off its hinges and across town, nearly striking Lois. While seeking the truth behind the falling door, Lois discovers a new love for investigative journalism. Oliver Queen, one of Lex's old classmates, moves to Metropolis. He has Lex captured to investigate Lex's powers.
Lex throws a costume charity ball to help raise funds for the restoration process after "Dark Thursday". Lana has conflicting feelings about trusting Lex, and she confides in Chloe. Clark learns that others have escaped the Phantom Zone when he and Chloe discover Gloria, a park ranger, is kidnapping men to harbor her alien seeds.
Clark confronts a bizarre version of himself and the ensuing fight causes Reeves Dam to burst. Lex, who was arrested for Lana's murder, is caught in the flood of water. Before he can drown, Lex is saved by an unknown girl who he later believes to be an angel giving him a second chance at redemption. Lionel's body is taken by an unknown person. Chloe is pronounced dead at the hospital, but she resurrects herself in the morgue. Clark discovers his doppelgänger's weakness, the yellow sun, and exploits it with the help of John Jones (Phil Morris). Lana is revealed to be alive and living in Shanghai, China.
Clark discovers he has a cousin, Kara, who was stuck in suspended animation for eighteen years. After a rocky first meeting, where Clark and Kara fight, the two soon band together to find Kara's stolen ship. Together they find her ship, which was taken by the Department of Domestic Security, but it is in self-destruct mode. Kara absorbs the explosion before it can kill anyone. Later, Kara reveals that a Kryptonian crystal, hidden inside the ship, was stolen before the ship exploded. Lex finds Lana, who used a LuthorCorp clone of herself to help fake her own death, in China. Lex returns to Smallville, determined to find the girl—Kara—who saved his life.
Kara decides she wants to join the Miss Sweet Corn Pageant. Clark tries to teach Kara to control her abilities, so she does not expose their secrets, but gets frustrated with her lack of concentration. Lana returns to Smallville, with all legal charges dropped against her, and reunites with Clark. Tyler and Tempest, two meteor-infected pageant contestants who witness Kara using her abilities, convince Kara to help them steal some buried treasure. The treasure turns out to be an SOS alert from another Kryptonian on Earth. Lex confronts Kara and promises to find out the truth of her abilities.
After the collapse of the Fortress of Solitude, Oliver Queen, Arthur Curry, and Dinah Lance set out searching for Clark. At the same time, newly promoted Tess Mercer also begins searching for Lex Luthor. Oliver discovers that Clark is being held captive in Russia, and leaves to rescue him. Chloe is revealed to be in the custody of LuthorCorp, who have been testing her developing powers, which now include super-intelligence. Lex's assistant, Regan, has been using Chloe to locate the members of Oliver's team. Oliver and Clark, who has lost his powers, arrive at the LuthorCorp site and rescue Chloe, Arthur and Dinah. John Jones arrives and restores Clark's powers, at the cost of his own. Afterward, Clark decides that he must leave the farm and pursue a new life, one that is free from the things that have been holding him back from his destiny. Clark starts his intership in the Daily Planet with Lois as his co-worker.
On Clark's first day at the Daily Planet a bomb on a bus goes off outside the building. Chloe helps one of the injured passengers, Bette, and meets paramedic Davis Bloome. Bette, a homeless teenager, stays with Chloe while Davis contacts a friend who runs a shelter for the homeless. Clark discovers that there was no bomb on the bus, but that someone blew it up with their meteor power. Clark and Lois deduce that Bette is the one with the meteor power, and Clark arrives at the Talon to save Chloe before Bette can hurt her. As Bette heads to Belle Reve, Tess stops by and persuades her to join a group of individuals, who also have meteor powers, that Tess has been forming.
Oliver collapses at a fundraiser and reveals to Clark and Chloe that he has been poisoned and only has twelve hours to live. Chloe calls Davis, who attempts to find a cure for Oliver's ailment, while Clark tries to find out who is responsible. Tess assigns Lois the job of uncovering the truth about Oliver's "drunken fall" at the fundraiser. While unconscious, Oliver relives the time he was shipwrecked on an island and how he first learned to shoot a bow. He also relives his first meeting with Tess, who was kidnapped while doing marine research in Fiji by a man named Marcos. Clark manages to get an antidote for Oliver, who informs him that Tess will be attacked next. Clark saves Tess before Marcos, who has returned, can kill her. Tess later takes revenge and poisons Marcos before sending him to the hospital to die.
Lois returns from the future with no memory of the three weeks she is missing. Meanwhile, Clark has been training with Jor-El, while also branding his family crest around Metropolis after saving someone. After saving Lois, Clark's feelings for her cause a disruption in his training and he realizes that the only way to finish is if he tells Lois goodbye. Dr. Emil Hamilton and Chloe begin working together in the Watchtower. Released from the black orb, Major Zod's soldiers initially turn on him when he fails to provide answers as to why none of them have the true powers of a Kryptonian like they should. Eventually, Zod regains their trust. A Kandorian woman (Monique Ganderton) from the future returns with Lois in the hope of finding Clark and killing him. When the two meet, the assassin releases blue kryptonite that nullifies hers and Clark's powers. In the battle the assassin is accidentally killed when she impales herself but not before revealing that Clark will cause the destruction of Earth. Just as she is falling asleep, Lois has sporadic visions of future events.
Daily Planet reporter John Corben (Brian Austin Green) is hit by a truck while trying to ascertain the Blur's identity. When he wakes up, John discovers that his body has been outfitted with robotic parts, and his heart replaced with a piece of kryptonite that acts as a power source for his body. Tess later discovers that Zod and his men were the ones who "helped" John, but only as a means to test a new way for them to get their powers. While helping the Blur, Lois is kidnapped by John as a means of drawing the Blur out. Clark arrives and fuses a lead plate to John's chest with his heat vision to protect himself from the kryptonite. When John pulls the plate off it removes the kryptonite and shuts down John's vitals. Clark and Chloe realize that Tess is after Lois's memories, so it is decided that Clark must return to society so that he can keep Tess from learning that he will be the cause of Earth's destruction.
After Tess is admitted to the hospital showing zombie-like symptoms, Clark has Dr. Hamilton investigate the cause with a Disease Control specialist. Clark overhears that Tess was at the Daily Planet when she began to show symptoms, so he speeds to the Planet to rescue Lois. In a battle with multiple zombie attackers, Lois is bitten. Clark then volunteers his blood to Dr. Hamilton, who discovers that the virus was created from Kryptonian enzymes, so the doctor can create a cure. With Chloe's help, Dr. Hamilton manufactures a rainstorm and seeds the clouds with the cure to create maximum coverage. It is revealed that the virus was used as a ploy to draw out the Blur, as one of Zod's men realizes that he was also Kryptonian. Based on the House of El symbol the Blur brands around town, Zod believes that Jor-El is on Earth, and has harnessed the power from the yellow Sun for himself. Oliver decides to burn his Green Arrow outfit, and give up trying to be a superhero.
Picking up immediately where season nine ended, Lois removes the blue kryptonite dagger from Clark's body and hides as he heals. Chloe uses Doctor Fate's helmet to see her future and later swaps herself for Oliver's return from captivity. Tess wakes up healed in Cadmus Labs and discovers Lex Luthor clones. One clone escapes and forces Clark to choose between saving Lois or Metropolis; Clark pushes himself harder than before and saves everyone. Jor-El informs Clark that the darkness within himself will make him Earth's greatest threat, but a vision of his adoptive father Jonathan reminds Clark that he can still be the world's greatest hero. Meanwhile, Lois decides to take the reporting position in Africa and Tess unofficially adopts a child-aged clone of Lex.
Lois takes a Daily Planet field reporter position in Egypt, so Clark sends Carter Hall to look after her. Subsequently, Carter and Lois discuss her running away from Clark in order to protect his secret. Oliver discovers that Chloe erased all records of herself before she disappeared, so he sets out to track her down. He discovers that she traded her life for his, and afterward faked her own death during the interrogation to escape. Back at the Daily Planet, Clark is assigned a new partner, Cat Grant, who hates all superheroes. Meanwhile, the Suicide Squad tags Clark, Oliver, and Carter with special trackers embedded in their skin. Clark decides not to go after Lois in Africa and instead begins wearing a new, red and blue version of his costume.
Radio personality Gordon Godfrey becomes possessed by the dark force Clark was warned about, and begins a waging a crusade against all super-heroes. Kara comes back to Earth and tells Clark that Jor-El has sent her to take care of the evil that is coming, as the doubt in Clark's heart will allow it to possess him and use Clark's powers as the ultimate weapon. Lois returns from Africa and learns that Godfrey is planning to reveal Green Arrow's identity, and create doubt all over the world about the super-heroes so that he can manipulate them down a new path. Clark and Kara confront Godfrey, but Kara's Kryptonian bracelet exorcises the entity from Godfrey. Meanwhile, Oliver decides it is best everyone knows the truth, and reveals his identity as Green Arrow.
